Run Walk Ride for Rwanda - BTR Liverpool Tour of Merseyside
The first leg of Run Walk Ride for Rwanda is the BTR Liverpool Tour of Merseyside - itself a multi-stage event of six races in seven days
The event(s) went as well as could be expected, with some good results and some not-so-good. I wasn't looking forward to the half marathon and struggled between 5 and 10 miles, but recovered to finish in 114th position. Monday was hard, especially on the beach, and I finished 118th. I felt better on Tuesday and finished strongly to take 106th. Wednesday was a welcome break, and Thursday's 5-miler was fast and furious finishing in 104th. I was dreading Friday's cross-country, but finished a respectable 106th.
And so to Saturday and the grand finale from Wallasey to Hoylake and back. My best run of the week saw me finishing in 70th place, bring me up to 93rd overall, and 4th in my age category, in a time of 7:12:45.
Like most other 'tourists', I thoroughly enjoyed it, and hope to be back next year.
But as the T-shirt says, 'It's not about me ... '. In my case it's about our friends in Rwanda, and the need to rebuild the maternity hospital in Shyira. So if you can find your way to spare a few pounds, please use the 'Donate' button, make a donation, and make a difference
